Anxiety – is it real?
Nov 21, 2024Anxiety has a sneaky way of showing up uninvited, like that neighbor who “just popped by” but stays for hours. One minute you’re sipping your coffee, and the next, you’re spiraling about everything from the economy to whether you accidentally sent your boss an emoji in your last email. But what if, instead of letting anxiety take the wheel, you could shift gears, get back to balance, and even turn fear into your superpower? Spoiler alert: our ego can send us down many rabbit holes of assumptions and fear that are not true!
First, let’s talk about the “quick fix” moment when anxiety hits. Start with asking yourself these 4 questions, created by Byron Katie in The Work:
- Is it true?
- Can I absolutely know it’s true?
- How do you react - what happens to you when you believe that thought?
- Who would you be without that thought?
This is the first step – and try to pair it with some movement—stand up, shake your hands like you’re flinging spaghetti at an invisible wall, and say, “I release this BS!” Trust me, it’s strangely satisfying.
Finally, make balance your new best friend. Start a daily routine that includes meditation or breathwork to build resilience from the inside out. Then, movement and gratitude thoughts. Then, be curious about what gets you out of balance – who, what and why you feel fear.
Balance doesn’t mean perfection; it’s about learning to dance with life’s chaos and trusting yourself to lead the way from the inside out!
